A year on
We can scarcely believe it, but it is now over a year since John, Nigel and Piers took over the reins at Amsel and Wilkins. It has been a hectic period, which has seen some changes including a facelift to our first floor cloakroom/bathroom, text reminders for appointments and a new telephone system, which allows you to leave messages if you are unable to reach our reception team promptly. There are many further changes planned which include our second floor bathroom, upgrading our computer systems and making our sterilisation suites state-of-the-art (please see later article).
In contrast there are many things that stay the same, especially maintaining the high standards you’ve come to expect at Amsel and Wilkins. A crucial part of this is that Peter and Martyn retain their commitment to the practice, looking after their patients as before. The reduction of their management role has of course given them more time to pursue their other interests. Martyn is still lecturing to post-graduates when he is not on the golf course! Meanwhile Peter, when not sailing, acts as an adviser for Dental Protection, mentoring other dentists.

Current projects
One of the changes you are likely to see over the forthcoming twelve months is upgrading our second floor bathroom to the standard set downstairs (see photo below).
Recent advances in sterilisation technology are enabling us to upgrade our decontamination facilities to remain at the cutting edge. This is currently in the planning stage, but we hope to update you in the next newsletter.
You will soon notice a change to our window displays, which will make our presence more visible to those passing by. They will highlight our services in conjunction with our new practice brochure.
Our IT systems are being upgraded which should further improve our text and e-mail notifications.
Recent visitors will have noticed an exhibition in the practice of paintings by Melissa Sturgeon, a local artist, which has recently been featured in the Banbury Guardian. The street scenes on display have added a welcome splash of colour to reception. We plan to promote more artists in the future.
With this in mind, we have formed a link with Banbury Art College photography degree course. At the end of each academic year we will be showing a collection of the student’s work and awarding prizes for the best pieces. This is planned to be an annual event and we hope you will enjoy viewing the student’s endeavours.

Donna George Dental Therapist
In April 2008 Donna joined us to work within our team. As one of our dental care professionals, she plays an important role in providing your dental care.
Donna is a qualified and experienced hygienist and therapist. Her primary role within our practice is to work with our child patients. As a therapist Donna can undertake a variety of treatments on both adults and children following a prescription from your dentist; she feels our first dental experiences can shape us for life. “We can all remember the bad visits, but who remembers the good ones?” Donna’s mission is to make your child’s visit as pleasant as possible.
In line with our policy on preventative dentistry, along with our team of dentists and hygienists, Donna will be proactive in encouraging families to adopt healthy lifestyles for teeth.
We all want our patients to understand the importance of preventative measures which include dietary advice, fluoride application, fissure sealants and effective homecare oral hygiene procedures.
