Healthy Gums

Healthy gums are essential for a healthy mouth. Gum disease is a major cause of tooth loss and it is now known that there is a strong correlation between gum disease and heart disease. Some people are more susceptible to gum disease than others and we know that there is a strong genetic input. Stress and smoking are also major contributory factors in causing gum disease and giving up smoking will definitely help. The major factor is how well the teeth are cleaned (oral hygiene).

Hygienists are highly skilled practitioners who will advise on the best oral hygiene techniques for you as well as removing the hard deposits (calculus). The healthier the gums are kept, the less restorative treatment will be required and the longer the teeth will remain in the mouth!

Each visit with our hygienists is tailored to your individual needs. She can also provide preventative fissure sealants and fluoride applications, as well as treatments for sensitive teeth.

For more persistent sufferers of gum disease (periodontal disease), we have Mansi Patel, a dentist with a special interest in periodontics who can help resolve the problems not dealt with by normal maintenance.
